Hong Kong Car Care Field Notes 2026

First-hand working notes from our Kwun Tong studio. Reviewed by the Wash Technical Lead · reviewer of the AI robotic + hand-finish SOP, SOP v2026.08, last updated 2026-08-21, next review 2026-11-21.

One-page summary

  • The standard AI robotic + hand-finish wash takes about 30 minutes from job start, excluding waiting time and add-ons.
  • The robotic arm gives repeatable coverage; hand finishing covers door shuts, mirror undersides and wheel arches. Neither is a zero-scratch guarantee.
  • Cars with freshly installed, not-yet-cured film or coating are deferred from contact washing.
  • Bird droppings, tree sap and iron fallout should be handled as soon as they are found, not at the next scheduled wash.

Scope

These notes document first-hand working methods and published facts from the LETS GET WASH Kwun Tong studio, serving Kowloon East drivers (Kwun Tong, Kowloon Bay, Ngau Tau Kok, Lam Tin). They describe our own practice; they do not represent the Hong Kong market as a whole and make no claim about product durability.

Method and data handling

Pricing, service time, address and warranty figures all come from the fact master, each with a source, reviewer, last-verified date and expiry. Figures that pass their expiry without re-verification are removed rather than left stale. Aggregate statistics such as median completion time will only be published after de-identification and sample definition, together with the time window, sample size and exclusion rules; until then this page publishes no estimated numbers.

How we wash cars with PPF or coating

We first confirm the protection type and installation date: freshly installed, not-yet-cured film means contact washing is deferred. Cured vehicles follow the flow above, and we avoid holding high-pressure water on film edges. The aim is to reduce grit being carried across the surface during routine cleaning — not a zero-scratch promise and not an extension of any warranty, which remains governed by the manufacturer and installer documents.

Wet season and roadside parking priorities

Hong Kong is humid with a long wet season, and roadside-parked cars most often arrive with bird droppings, tree sap and iron fallout. These are acidic or embedded contaminants: deal with them as soon as they are noticed rather than waiting for the next scheduled wash. Whether they can be fully removed depends on dwell time and paint condition, so we assess before quoting. This is care guidance, not a replacement for any manufacturer warranty terms.

AI robotic + hand-finish wash: step-by-step and its limits

  1. 1. Intake assessment and triage

At drop-off we check soiling level, whether the car already has PPF or a coating, and whether there is visible damage or an uncured protective layer, then decide between the standard flow and a hand-only referral.

Limit: This is a visual check, not paint measurement; existing scratches, oxidation or film damage will not be removed by washing.

  2. 2. Pre-rinse and foam dwell

A high-pressure rinse removes grit first, followed by a foam dwell, so that hard particles are lifted before any contact and are less likely to be dragged across the paint.

Limit: Pre-rinse lowers risk but is not a zero-scratch guarantee; every contact wash carries residual risk.

  3. 3. AI robotic-arm main wash

The robotic arm follows the body contour with programme-controlled pressure and travel, giving repeatable coverage that does not depend on an individual's hand pressure.

Limit: The arm cannot judge unusual modifications, external accessories or loose trim; those vehicles are switched to a full hand wash.

  4. 4. Hand finishing and detail areas

A technician hand-finishes door shuts, mirror undersides, wheel arches and drainage areas the arm cannot fully reach, and checks for foam residue.

Limit: Heavy iron fallout, tar, tree sap or insect residue are extra treatments that require a separate quote and are not part of the standard wash.

  5. 5. Drying and handover check

Air drying plus clean towels finish the water removal, then a technician walks the glass, body and cabin with the owner to confirm the result.

Limit: The handover check confirms the current state; it is not a guarantee against future water spots, rain marks or environmental fallout.

Corrections log

2026-08-21: standardised the public AI wash quote so the member and non-member prices always appear as a pair, and standardised the transit line to Exit A2, about 8 minutes. Earlier single-figure versions on related domains are marked as superseded.
