Automotive care does not always mean chasing mirror-like reflections. For this dark grey Tesla Model Y, preserving the apparent matte or satin character, refining details and refreshing the cabin mattered more than adding gloss.

Real workshop photographs document the body wipe-down, close inspection, tyre-sidewall care and front-cabin cleaning that shaped this condition-led Car Rescue Level 1 visit.

The owner's problem

The dark grey body appeared matte or satin, so the priority was to identify the surface before cleaning the body, tyre sidewalls and cabin without blindly adding gloss.

What we did

  1. 1Deep foam wash with targeted treatment for insects, sap and bonded surface residue.
  2. 2Careful panel wiping and close inspection under handheld lighting.
  3. 3Surface identification before deciding whether clay, polishing or coating is appropriate.
  4. 4Tyre-sidewall and wheel-arch detailing with products kept off tread and braking surfaces.
  5. 5Cabin care focused on touch points, two seats and two seat belts, plus mats, boot and trim.
  6. 6Material and manufacturer checks for lamps, glass and coating options; no default hydrophobic treatment on the Tesla windscreen.

Result

The body retained a consistent understated finish while the light signature, shoulder lines and rear profile read more clearly; frequently touched cabin areas were carefully refreshed.

Aftercare

Do not apply glossy-paint polishing, clay or gloss-enhancing routines to an unidentified matte surface. Future care should follow the confirmed paint or film manufacturer's guidance.

01

Detailed care, not indiscriminate gloss

A soft cloth and handheld inspection light were used around the bonnet and front wheel arch. The photographs record close cleaning and inspection rather than machine polishing.

A photograph alone cannot establish whether the finish is paint, colour-change film or protection film. Identifying the material and checking its product guidance comes before selecting any corrective process.

02

Confirm the surface before choosing a process

Level 1 includes a deep foam wash and contaminant treatment, but listed clay, polishing and oxidation work is not automatically suitable for every surface. Matte paint and matte film should not receive a glossy-paint process by default.

Deep scratches, chips, damaged film or ageing materials require separate assessment rather than promises of complete restoration in one visit.

03

Tyre sidewalls and surrounding details

Tyres, wheels and arches influence the whole-car presentation. The case records sidewall cleaning, with products kept away from tread and braking components and the precise scope confirmed against the car's condition.

04

Model Y cabin care starts at touch points

Door panels, the centre armrest, steering wheel, seats and storage areas were treated individually. Level 1 includes deep care for two seats and two seat belts rather than every seating position at the same depth.

Seats, belts, the centre display and glass each require material-specific methods, while mats, boot, doors and dashboard are vacuumed and wiped according to condition.

05

HKD 3,999 and the KOCH-CHEMIE package

Car Rescue Level 1 is HKD 3,999. The standard package lists a gift valued above HKD 3,800: a one-year KOCH-CHEMIE CB0.02 single-layer coating, plus lamp and front-windscreen treatments. The photographs do not prove every listed coating was applied to this car.

Compatibility must be checked for matte or filmed surfaces. Tesla's Model Y manual also warns against adding hydrophobic treatment to the windscreen where it may affect camera visibility, so this case does not present that item as mandatory.

06

Allow around nine hours, subject to condition

Level 1 generally takes around 9 hours, with drop-off and collection agreed in advance. Surface material and overall condition determine the actual schedule rather than an unconditional same-day promise.

The finished presentation kept the understated body character intact. Owners seeking Tesla detailing, Model Y interior cleaning or matte-surface care in Kwun Tong can share photographs before booking and confirm the process after inspection.
