GLASS COATING + OIL-FILM REMOVAL
Glass Coating + Oil-Film Removal— Kwun Tong, Hong Kong LETS GET WASH professional windscreen water-repellent coating, oil-film removal and rainy-night safety visibility service
We first remove old oil film and water spots with a professional polishing pad, then heat-cure a Japanese fluorine coating for 6–12 months of water repellency. Front and rear windscreens plus 4 side windows are done in one visit, for clearer rainy-night visibility and easier washing.
Application process
- • Oil-film inspection on the glass surface (water-bead shape test)
- • Professional polishing pad + oil-removal paste on all glass until fully hydrophilic
- • Pure-water rinse and dust-free air-gun drying
- • High-concentration fluorine / SiO₂ coating applied zone by zone
- • Infrared heat curing to speed up formation of the water-repellent layer
- • Guidance on the 24-hour curing period and after-care tips
Results
- • Above 60km/h, rainwater is automatically blown away without using wipers
- • No more glare when driving through Cross-Harbour or Eastern Harbour tunnels on rainy nights
- • Bird droppings, tar and insects wash off easily without corroding the glass
- • Smoother glass surface — 40% less wiping time on daily washes
- • Stable water repellency for 6–12 months, unlike Rain-X-type sprays that fade in half a month
Why does Hong Kong's road environment especially need glass coating?
Hong Kong receives over 2,400mm of rain a year, and with dense high-rises and strong light reflections, rainy nights become the most dangerous time for drivers. Old oil film on glass makes rain "spread" instead of "bead and roll off", causing light scatter and distorted vision. Professional glass coating completely changes how rain behaves — water beads roll off along the coating layer, and above 60km/h airflow greatly reduces how often wipers are needed.
LETS GET WASH's Kwun Tong flagship uses a Japanese high-concentration fluorine coating with a hardness of 6H–9H, paired with infrared heat curing to lock the molecules firmly into the glass's mesh structure. Compared with Rain-X-type silicone sprays, water repellency lasts 6–12 months instead of 2 weeks — much better value long term.
For vehicles like Tesla / BYD / Toyota / Benz / BMW with ADAS cameras and rain sensors on the windscreen, we carefully control coating thickness to avoid interfering with Autopilot / TSS / MobilEye systems.
Ideal for
- • Drivers who regularly use high-speed roads like Cross-Harbour, Eastern Harbour, Tseung Kwan O and Tuen Mun Road tunnels
- • Anyone whose eyes get tired from windscreen glare while driving on rainy nights
- • Uber / ride-hailing drivers wanting to reduce rainy-day driving risk
- • Tesla and BYD EV owners who want fewer wiper activations to avoid scratching the glass
- • Owners who just had PPF or ceramic body coating done and want consistent water repellency all over

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1. What's the difference between glass coating and rain-repellent sprays?
Rain-repellent sprays (Rain-X-type) are silicone-based and only last 1–2 weeks, and can harden wiper blade rubber. Professional glass coating uses a fluorine or SiO₂ formula, applied after polishing away oil film and then heat-cured, lasting 6–12 months of stable water repellency while also protecting the glass from new water spots.
Q2. Why remove oil film before coating?
Road grime mixed with old wax and rain residue forms a transparent oil film on glass, causing blurred vision in sunlight and glare on rainy nights. Coating directly over oil film won't adhere well and gives poor water repellency. That's why we always polish with a professional pad and oil-removal paste until fully hydrophilic before applying the coating.
Q3. How long does glass coating last?
Depending on wash frequency and whether harsh acidic/alkaline products are used, it typically stays effective for 6–12 months. Maintaining with CES ceramic shampoo or S0.02 body coating spray can extend it another 3–6 months.
Q4. Do I still need wipers after coating?
Above 60km/h the effect is most noticeable, as airflow blows the water away automatically, letting drivers use wipers less. Wipers are still recommended when stationary or in traffic to keep the view clear.
Q5. Will hail or automatic car-wash brushes scratch the coating?
The coating reaches a hardness of 6H–9H, so light dust and grit won't immediately damage it; but prolonged friction from harsh automatic car-wash brushes can still wear it down faster, so we recommend members return regularly for AI robotic-arm semi-hand washing maintenance.
